Donald Trump's System of Retribution and Reward

The ex-president's insatiable desire for retribution has quickly morphed into a methodical framework. Within the past year, the president's anger and caprices have assumed the guise of official policies similar to comparable to past repressive systems. Federal personnel who do not cooperate are promptly removed and replaced by devotees. Political figures who challenge him risk indictment, court proceedings and penalties. Critics have been categorized under administration orders as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “against free markets”, and menaced with prosecution as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Each instance involving prosecution of critics and leniency for his allies demonstrates its own particular qualities. However, notwithstanding their individual form, they exemplify manifestations of what has arisen as a systematic technique. Such events are not isolated. Trump's cleansing of federal attorneys and FBI officials, coupled with his placement of loyalists in key roles, started quickly, soon took on a regularity, and has now been shaped into a regime. The justice department and the law enforcement agency have been restructured into partisan organizations under Trump's explicit command to implement his wishes. Unfairness has been rendered normal. It represents the retribution system.

Leadership is focused with punishing the President's alleged enemies than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Inside the Apparatus

The foundation of this framework has been revealed in the court filing of three ex- senior FBI officials lodged in the ninth month in the federal court in Washington against FBI director a senior appointee and top lawyer Pam Bondi for unlawful firing in “a campaign of revenge against Plaintiffs for what Defendants judged to be a failure to show sufficient political loyalty”. In the complaint that one official, the ex- temporary head, describes a conversation in which he “openly confessed the illegality of his actions”.

Driscoll had sought to shield law enforcement officers from being fired, the complaint states. The director told him that “administration officials” – understood by Driscoll to be the presidential administration and justice department – had ordered him to fire all those who they determined as having worked on a criminal investigation against Trump. The document continues: “The director stated that he had to terminate the individuals his leaders told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own position relied on the ouster of the officials who worked on matters involving the leader. Patel noted that there was no option he or the official could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the agency sought to incarcerate the President in prison and he hasn't forgotten it.’” After Driscoll advised him he was violating the agency's own policies, he reportedly said “he knew that and he realized the character of the immediate dismissals were probably improper”.

Extensive Effects

Following the director's claimed acknowledgment to him, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been gutted and reorganized for his retribution system. Multiple of the agency's top officials were dismissed or forced out in the initial period of the administration. Approximately thousands of professional attorneys at the department have agreed to a “early exit scheme”. A minimum of seven DoJ lawyers, among them those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in dissent over what they considered as partisan influence in abandoning the legal action against the local official, the mayor, in return for his cooperation with his Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of the justice department, which oversees corruption cases, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The civil rights division has been decimated: 70% of its employees has departed. A third of executives at DoJ have resigned. The unit enforcing environmental law has lost 50% its supervisors.

Favors and Penalties

Concerning the mayor's situation, the acting US attorney for the NY office, she, stepped down in dissent against what she described as the “quid pro quo”. Tom Homan, Trump's “immigration leader,” was present as the implementer with the mayor on television to declare: “Should he fail to deliver, I will return in NYC.”. Meanwhile, another figure, earlier the senior DoJ official and a past legal representative, who brokered the agreement, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a potential stepping stone to the highest court.

The president's exemption for crimes perpetrated while in office, awarded by the extraordinary judgment of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus blocking his legal action over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his public standing for the presidential race, is the foundation stone on which he stands to protect his loyalists. With such immunity, he has been empowered to authorize corruption. The impact of the court judgment saturates his government and the GOP thoroughly. The court matter has escalated.
